*Frequently Asked Questions.
1. What issues can I see a counsellor for?
You can speak to a counsellor about a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship issues, stress, self-esteem, life transitions, parenting challenges, and more.
2. Do I need a referral to book a session?
No referral is necessary. You can book directly through our website or by contacting us via email.
3. Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in counselling is confidential, in accordance with the Australian Counselling Association Code of Ethics and the Privacy Act. There are some legal exceptions, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by a court order. Our Telehealth platform Halaxy is protected by bank grade security and encryption, which means records, notes and other information is protected to the same level used in banks. All information is encrypted and stored in a securely protected data centre in Australia.
4. What is the cost of a session?
Session fees are $150 AUD for a 50-minute individual therapy session and $250 for a 75-minute couples therapy session. Please contact us via the enquiry form to discuss options.
5. Are your services covered by Medicare or private health insurance?
Counselling is not currently covered by Medicare rebates in Australia. Some private health funds may offer rebates depending on your level of cover. Please check with your provider.
6. Do you offer online counselling?
Yes. We offer secure online sessions via secure hosting platform Zoom. This allows you to attend from the comfort of your home or any private space.
7. How long is each session?
Sessions typically last 50 minutes for individuals and 75 minutes for couples. This may vary slightly depending on your needs and the type of service provided.
8. What can I expect in the first session?
The first session focuses on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and discussing your goals for counselling. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and see if the fit feels right.
9. How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different. Some clients benefit from a few sessions, while others engage in longer-term support. We will regularly review your progress together.
10. What’s your cancellation policy?
We require 48 hours’ notice for rescheduling your appointment. If you would like to cancel your session, please contact us via email or reschedule through Calendly at least 48 hours prior to the session start. As the full session fee is processed upon booking, we do not offer refunds if cancellation is made within this 48 hour window - however, you can reschedule your appointment for free. Missed appointments or late cancellations may incur a full session fee. Please email info@nbstherapy.com.au as soon as possible if you need to reschedule your session.
11. Can I use my NDIS funding for counselling?
Yes — if counselling is listed as part of your NDIS plan goals and you're either self-managed or plan-managed, you may be able to use your funding for sessions.
Counselling services are generally funded under:
Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living
This covers support from allied health professionals, including counselling to improve emotional wellbeing, relationships, coping skills, and independence.
We provide invoices with the correct service item numbers to help you or your plan manager claim reimbursement.
Please note:
If your plan is NDIA-managed (agency-managed), you can only use registered NDIS providers.
If your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, you have more flexibility to choose providers who aren't registered with the NDIS, such as NBS Therapy.
If you're unsure, we’re happy to help you understand your plan and guide you through the process.
